A handmade jewellery shop that follows up on every sale.

The Mustard Seed Gallery sells handmade, faith-inspired jewellery: real mustard seeds sealed in hand-blown glass. Holly is the owner and artist, working with a small team of makers.

THE MUSTARD SEED GALLERYHow is it wearing?Hello Sarah, a couple of weeks ago you chose something from us, and by now it should have found its place. If you have a minute, a few words help more than you might think.

No pressure at all. If something isn't right, reply and we'll put it right.
Before

The shop ran on a standard hosted store and ranked for only 12 searches on Google. When someone left at the payment page, nothing reminded them. Nothing asked a happy customer for a review, and Holly had no easy way to write to her list.

What we built

A shop that keeps selling after the customer has left the page.

Shop and checkoutThe whole catalogue moved across from the old store, with card and wallet payments, gift cards and a wholesale form. Every old product link points to its new page, so nothing Google knew about was lost.
Basket remindersIf someone leaves at checkout, a friendly "Still thinking it over?" email goes out three hours later with their basket saved. It's withdrawn if they come back and pay.
Review requests after deliveryTwo weeks after a parcel ships, a short note asks how the piece is wearing and links straight to the review form. A refund or cancellation stops it.
Welcome codes and newsletterNew subscribers get a single-use welcome code, and Holly can send launch emails and a behind-the-scenes series about the makers.
A back office for the ownerOrders, packing slips, shipping updates, stock, offers, reviews, team invites and abandoned checkouts, all in one place.
Enquiries straight to the inboxContact and wholesale messages arrive as clear email alerts that Holly answers with Reply.
The journalA blog Holly writes in herself, with launch articles written around what gift buyers search for, each linking to the pieces it mentions.
How it runs now

Holly packs the day's orders from the printed slips and marks them shipped. The customer gets tracking straight away, and two weeks later the review request goes out by itself. Overnight, left baskets get their reminder and new subscribers get their codes.

In September the shop took seven orders through the website, up from two in August, and 46 people joined the mailing list, up from 10.

“I'm one person making jewellery. I can't follow up every basket and ask every customer for a review, and now I don't have to. It just happens, and the orders have followed.”

What's next

Asking for an email before the payment page, so every shopper who leaves can be reminded, and connecting the ads to the shop so they look for buyers, not clicks.

Selling online, but nobody follows up after the sale?
